Nature of Work

 

Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the employee shall maintain, repair and install food service (kitchen) related equipment throughout the district and perform other duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the Maintenance Department which includes general maintenance throughout each facility as needed. This includes refrigeration equipment, HVAC, electrical, gas and pneumatic equipment as well as plumbing, roofing and grounds. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all school nutrition (kitchen) systems throughout the school system.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Have experience with Honeywell Building Automation Systems and the LG THINQ app.
  • Operate and maintain coolers, freezers, milk boxes, ice machines, serving lines, ice cream cabinets and other refrigeration equipment. Troubleshoot and repair when necessary, replace when needed.
  • Operate and maintain boilers, chillers, four pipe systems, air handler units, unit ventilators, fan coil units, cooling towers, pumps, variable frequency drives, gas packs, water source heat pumps and ductless heat pumps. Troubleshoot and repair when necessary, replace when needed.
  • Work and communicate well with the Chief Operations Officer, cafeteria managers, principals, vendors and department secretaries.
  • Be able to work independently and safely on daily tasks. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with verbal or printed work orders.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed and must be available for after-hours emergencies.
  • Provide assistance to crew members and perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Utilize recycling and recovery equipment.
  • Performs their duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Operations Officer.

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Associates Degree in Refrigeration preferred but not required
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting.
  • Two years extensive experience in maintaining commercial refrigeration and considerable knowledge of heating, ventilation, electrical and pump theory
  • Universal EPA Certification for refrigerants as defined by Section 608 of the EPA Clean Air Act     

 

  

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles including vans, trucks, dump trucks, tractors, etc.
  • Inspect equipment and tools before each use
  • Must be physically able to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical test instruments
  • Use necessary equipment to repair refrigeration systems such as recovery machines, refrigerant cylinders, vacuum pumps, scales and soldering tools.
  • Fabricate, assemble and install wiring, piping, controls, etc., according to specifications, building codes, blueprints and schematics
  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding and aerial work platforms.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force or greater occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

 Considerable knowledge of heating, ventilation and refrigeration theory.

 

Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

 

Considerable knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment design, operation and maintenance.

 

Knowledge of plumbing and plumbing repairs.

 

Working knowledge of electricity.

 

Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, prescribe repair procedures and make repairs.

 

Ability to follow broad written or oral instructions.

 

Ability to follow blueprints and/or diagrams.

 

Ability to follow safety procedures and guidance as directed by the safety officer, safety team and supervisor.
