Qualifications:                                       

BA/BS or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field with previous preschool teaching experience

Birth-Kindergarten Teaching License

Minimum of 3 years preschool classroom or supervisory experience preferred

 

Preferred Qualifications:                

Knowledge of early childhood developmentally appropriate practices, North Carolina DCDEE standards, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Practice-Based Coaching model, Pre-K CLASS observation tool, North Carolina Pre-K standards, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Creative Curriculum, ChildPlus, PowerSchool, and Exceptional Children’s program requirements & paperwork

 

Job Summary:                                        

The Preschool Education Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day support of teaching staff in ensuring an effective early childhood education program for children and their families. The Education Coordinator ensures that teaching staff follow best practices and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a safe and engaging learning environment.  The Education Coordinator works closely with management staff, teachers, and families to ensure each child receives comprehensive preschool services and is prepared for Kindergarten and beyond.

 

Job Duties:

Curriculum, Education, and CLASS Observations

  • Assist and support teaching staff in implementing the Creative Curriculum to fidelity by planning developmentally appropriate activities, setting up the learning environment, and individualizing plans to ensure a positive school experience for each child & family
  • Organize DIAL-4 screenings for all children during Preschool Registration and once enrolled in the program
  • Monitor and approve weekly lesson plans, provide feedback as necessary, and share relevant materials or suggestions with teaching staff
  • Conduct classroom walk-throughs and observations to ensure best practices are followed and plans are implemented
  • Prepare teaching staff for Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales (ECERS) observations, state licensing, and sanitation visits
  • Conduct CLASS observations using the CLassroom Assessment Scoring System for Pre-K and provide teaching staff with feedback about the observed interactions between adults and children

 

Practice-Based Coaching

  • Utilize the Practice-Based Coaching cycle to create goals and an action plan, observe and provide teachers with feedback
  • Establish strong relationships with teaching staff and empower them to maintain the highest possible quality education and environment for their children by achieving personal goals and reflecting on their own teaching practices

 

Ongoing Monitoring, Professional Development, & School Readiness

  • Monitor and maintain Head Start performance standard regulations, Department of Child Development and Early Education 5-star rating, North Carolina Pre-K education component audit regulations, and Person County Schools rules and requirements  
  • Update and ensure implementation of a comprehensive school readiness plan and goals using input from parents, staff, and stakeholders to ensure students’ learning is supported before Kindergarten
  • Analyze child outcomes data quarterly utilizing Teaching Strategies GOLD and use information to support teachers and students’ learning
  • Lead the School Readiness Committee, report quarterly child outcomes data, plan for future program changes and professional development
  • Attend professional development relevant to Head Start, Foundations, and Exceptional Children and present information to teaching staff

 

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Pre-K Director and team of coordinators to ensure comprehensive services for children and their families enrolled in the program
  • Evaluate school, program, and classroom-level goals and progress annually as part of a 5-year Head Start grant cycle
  • Serve as a member of school-wide committees to plan events and support the daily happenings of the program, including
  • Serve on relevant Person County Schools committees

 

Disabilities Services

  • Communicate confidentially with the Preschool Disabilities Coordinator about students who have suspected or identified disabilities
  • Collaborate with a team of multi-disciplinary therapists, a school psychologist, teachers, families, and the Preschool Disabilities Coordinator to ensure required testing and paperwork is complete and individualized services are provided
  • Assist teachers with IEP paperwork in ECATS to maintain compliance, serve as the LEA in IEP meetings, and provide information to parents and family members about the Exceptional Children’s program and referral process
  • Meet with Kindergarten team members to plan for students’ transition from Pre-K to elementary school

 

Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director and/or as needed to meet Head Start, North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten, Title I, North Carolina Division of Child Development & Early Education, or Person County Schools requirements 

Local or out of state travel may be necessary to attend relevant professional development.
