Job Summary:

 

The Head Softball Coach is responsible for managing and directing the softball program at Person High School. This includes planning, organizing, and conducting practices, coaching during games, developing game strategies, and maintaining the overall success and development of the student-athletes. The coach is also responsible for ensuring the program adheres to the school’s, district’s, and North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) rules and regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Program Leadership & Development:
    1. Oversee and manage all aspects of the high school softball program, including team practices, game preparation, and game-day coaching.
    2. Develop short- and long-term goals for the program, focusing on athlete development and competitive success.
    3. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.
    4. Hold pre-season parent orientation meeting for all levels to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, requirements, and risk factors for all athletes.
  2. Player Development:
    1. Provide individual and team instruction, teaching techniques, strategies, and skills to help athletes improve their performance.
    2. Promote academic success and personal growth of student-athletes, including monitoring academic progress.
    3. Serve as a mentor and role model, instilling values of hard work, commitment, and perseverance.
  3. Game Management:
    1. Develop and implement effective game strategies.
    2. Ensure team preparedness for all competitions, including conducting scouting and video analysis of opponents.
    3. Manage game-day logistics, including transportation, equipment, and team communication.
  4. Recruitment & Retention:
    1. Actively recruit student-athletes within the school to participate in the softball program.
    2. Retain athletes by fostering a positive experience within the program.
  5. Program Administration:
    1. Ensure compliance with NCHSAA and school regulations, including eligibility and sportsmanship policies.
    2. Collaborate with the athletic director to develop a budget, order necessary equipment, and maintain inventory.
    3. Maintain appropriate records of the program, including player statistics and team achievements.
  6. Community & Parent Engagement:
    1. Communicate regularly with parents, the athletic department, and school administration.
    2. Develop positive relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to build support for the program.
  7. Safety & Wellness:
    1. Prioritize the health and safety of student-athletes, following established protocols for injury prevention and care.
    2. Ensure proper supervision of all team activities, including practices, games, and travel.
